This large group were gathered not far from 105 Harbour Village to celebrate the end of WW2.
Most families had husbands, sons, brothers in the services, many of whom would have been in the Merchant Navy – there is distinct lack of men of service age in the photo – they had yet to be demobbed.
A number of Harbour Village families would have touched by tragedy during the war and all would have known those who perished at the sinking of the St Patrick. (Bombing of the St Patrick)
Rationing would still have been in force but no doubt through inginuity and determination a party “fit for a king” would have been enjoyed by all.
A few faces have been identified – on the left with the white scarf was Jenny Llewellyn (Strawbridge) and in the wheelchair was Mrs John with her grandchildren Meg and Robert standing alongside.
