A very pleasant afternoon was spent in Allt yr Afon Hotel on Sunday, 2nd October, when the members and previous members of Cor Abergwaun came together to celebrate the 30th birthday of the choir. Everyone was welcomed to the dinner by the chairperson, Mrs Glesni James, and there was a special welcome for one previous member who had travelled all the way from Australia to attend the event! After dinner, Shan Griffiths, who was one of the original members of the 1986 Eisteddfod Choir from which Cor Abergwaun was formed, gave a short history of the choir. Following this history, we were entertained by the soloist and winner of the “Ruban Glas” Gwyn Morris who sang two wonderful songs. He had travelled with the choir to Germany in 1989.
Those who had arranged an exhibition of photographs and and programmes were thanked and a recording of some of the early concerts, including Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol, which was held in Hermon Chapel, Fishguard, in November 1986 with John S Davies conducting. A lot of fun was had searching for the familiar faces…all looking a little bit younger!!
Special thanks went to Shan Griffiths (Secretary) and Edward Holdaway (Treasurer) and to everyone who had helped to arrange the occasion. Remember the concert in St Peter’s Church on October 14th to celebrate the 30th Anniversary, together with local young artists and Goodwick Brass Band who have joined with and supported Cor Abergwaun over the years. Tickets can be had from both Seaways book shop and Paul Satori shops. A chance to celebrate and give thanks. Let us look forward to the next decades!
