Stori'r Loced / A Locket Story

Mr Willie Llewellyn - yn sefyll wrth ei siop / standing outside the shop
Mrs Eileen LLewellyn Amlwch
In August 2022 a small locket was found at Fishguard. It had two tiny portraits inside. Though not valuable in monetary terms, it was too charming not to be cherished.

Though ‘Facebook’ is often maligned, it is the perfect tool for sharing. A quick snap of the locket was uploaded and within 24 hours, it was shared 198 times by Facebook users. Many messages came in with suggestions about whom the portraits might be.

With a little more help from the Web, and also by word of mouth, it was discovered that the portraits were of Mr and Mrs  W M Llewellyn of Commercial Stores, Main Street, Goodwick. William and Bessie ran a grocery shop for many years. On the day of their son’s wedding, the two photos were taken.

A little more research resulted in the locket being posted, within a week, to Anglesey, where it is safely in the hands of a new owner. This young lady is the great grand daughter of Mr & Mrs Llewellyn, Commercial Stores.

It would be wonderful to discover more about ‘Commercial Stores’. Can any one share memories of the shop? According to Mr George Edwards, Stop & Call, there were two grocery stores in the same street when he was young. Mr Emlyn Rees (a son to Rev W ‘Arianglawdd Rees of Harmony) and his wife, Bessie, kept ‘A E Rees, Central Stores’, and below, there was ‘Commercial Stores’, kept by Mr and Mrs Llewellyn.

Ym mis Awst 2022 daeth loced fach i’r golwg yn Abergwaun. Ynddo, we dou bortread bach. Er nag wedd e yn werthfawr mewn termau ariannol, wedd e’n rhy bert i beidio â chael ei drysori.

Er bod ‘Facebook’ yn dân ar groen llawer o bobol, mae’n arf perffaith ar gyfer rhannu. Llwythwyd ffoto cyflym o’r loced i Facebook ac o fewn 24 awr, fe’i rhannwyd 198 o weithiau gan ddefnyddwyr eraill.  Daeth llawer o negeseuon i mewn gydag awgrymiadau ynghylch pwy allai’r portreadau fod.

Gydag ychydig mwy o help gan y We, ac hefyd wrth drafod â pobl lleol, darganfuwyd fod y portreadau o Mr a Mrs W M Llewellyn o Commercial Stores, Wdig. Bu William a Bessie yn rhedeg siop groser am flynyddoedd lawer. Ar ddiwrnod priodas eu mab, tynnwyd y ddau lun.

Arweiniodd ychydig mwy o ymchwil at bostio’r loced, o fewn wythnos, i Sir Fôn, lle y mae’n ddiogel yn nwylo perchennog newydd. Mae y ferch ifanc hon  yn orwyres i Mr & Mrs Llewellyn, Commercial Stores.

Byddai’n wych darganfod mwy am siop groser Llewellyn.  Oes gyda chi fwy o wybodaeth amdano? Yn ôl Mr George Edwards, Stop  & Call, yr oedd dau siop groser yn yr un stryd pan oedd e’n ifanc. Teulu Mr Emlyn Rees (un o feibion Parchg W ‘Arianglawdd’ Rees) a’i wraig Bessie, oedd yn cadw  y siop ‘A E Rees, Central Stores’, ac islaw, roedd Commercial Stores, gan Mr a Mrs Llewellyn.
