Pantings - Main Street
Ian Evans
'Miles Refreshment Rooms'
The first view of Main Street was probably taken in the late 1910s or possibly just post war. Unfortunately the resolution of the image is not very good and so reading the shop names is almost impossible except for Pantings – the first shop on the left.

Look closely and you might just see the cart on the right with the milk churn aboard – customers would bring their own jug and get it filled from the churn with fresh farm milk.

The second photograph shows the ‘Miles Refreshment rooms’ located at Main Street.  Two shop attendants and a lad, together with an infant and little girl are seen at street level, while two ladies are seated in the first floor window.

Mae’n debyg bod yr olygfa gyntaf o’r Stryd Fawr wedi’i thynnu ar ddiwedd y 1910au neu efallai wedi’r rhyfel. Yn anffodus nid yw safon y llun yn dda iawn ac felly mae darllen enwau’r siopau bron yn amhosib heblaw am Pantings – y siop gyntaf ar y chwith.

Edrychwch yn ofalus ac efallai y byddwch chi’n gweld y cart ar y dde gyda’r stond laeth ar fwrdd y cart – byddai cwsmeriaid yn dod â’u jwg eu hunain ac yn ei llenwi o’r stond gyda llaeth fferm ffres.

Mae’r ail lun yn dangos y ‘Miles Refreshment Rooms’ ar y Stryd Fawr. Gwelir dau weithiwr y siop a chrwt, ynghyd â babi a merch fach ar lefel y stryd, tra bod dwy fenyw yn eistedd yn ffenest y llawr cyntaf.
