The Iron Church at Goodwick
The first St Peter’s Church at Goodwick was opened in 1874 and was a corrugated iron building which at that time stood almost alone on the hillside.
Goedwig Chapel in Main Street had been opened the previous year and Barachah Chapel just above Goodwick Square had been opened considerably earlier, in 1830.
St Peter’s was built as a Chapel of Ease for the parish of Llanwnda as the mother Church was quite a distance from the village of Goodwick and there was a need for a place of worship to serve local residents and visitors. Despite being replaced by the building of the new St Peter’s Church which opened in 1911, the old building continued to serve the congregation by being its Church Hall right up until 1983 when its replacement was built. It is interesting to look at later photographs of the site which shows how the village grew across the hillside and enveloped St Peter’s and its iron church hall.

The first image above of the iron church is believed to have been taken by Henry Jackson, a photographer from Fishguard – an album containing this image has recently been lent to Ein Hanes on Fishguard Square
