Fishguard Wireless Station

The Post Office Station at Fishguard was opened for commercial work on September 8th 1913. The station was built on the top of the cliffs near Harbour Village and was erected by the Great Western Railway with the Post Office providing the internal equipment which was of the Marconi principle. The power to operate it, was provided by the GWR power house at the harbour.

It had a daytime range of 250 miles but at night it had received signals from over 1200 miles.

The first news of the sinking of the Lusitania on May 7th 1915 was received by this station.

The decision to close the station was announced in 1934 and was reported in the Belfast News. It was closed on June 8th 1935.
