This interior shot of Fishguard and Goodwick Station signal box, to give its full title likely shows the original 35 lever frame. The two “boxes” on the cupboards, mid photo are the staff machine for controlling engines in single line sections. The staff could only be released from the machine by a signal man – upon release it would be given to the engine driver to allow him to enter the single track section. Only one staff could be released at any one time and therefore until it was returned to a corresponding machine at the other end of the section no other train should be able to enter the section.

The signal box remained in use until the 26th June 1983.
