Main Street: Goodwick

Main Street Goodwick

A very clear photograph of Main Street in Goodwick which could roughly be dated to the 1920s? A motor car, with the Pembrokeshire registration letters D E  is parked outside Bethesda English Baptist Chapel on the bottom LHS and on the bottom RHS a group of people stand talking outside the Police Station.

Bethesda Baptist Chapel was the English offshoot from The Welsh speaking Goedwig Chapel. Bethesda was founded in the Reading Room (on Quay Road in Goodwick) in the early part of 1908. It prospered so exceedingly, helped in part by the influx of English speakers to the area seeking work on the new Harbour development that in a few months, it was in a position to buy a site in Main Street, and a corrugated iron chapel was erected early in the following year.
