The Closure of Bethesda Baptist Church.

Main Street

On 16th July, 2000, the decision was made to close Bethesda Baptist Church, Goodwick, which had been open since 1908.

Here’s a summery of the decisions made at the Church meeting held in 2000.

  1. Bethesda to disband.
  2. Members will worship wherever they choose  as from the first Sunday in August 2000.
  3. Members will retain their membership with Bethesda until all its assets have been disposed.
  4. Members agree to meet as occasion arises in order to effect the disposal of these assets.
  5. Members will not disclose the decision to disband until the formal announcement has been made at the Church Anniversary service.
  6. Bethel Church, it’s members and friends, will be contacted and invited to attend Bethesda’s Church Anniversary service and, if necessary, it will be disclosed to the secretary of Bethel in confidence, the decision to disband.

Upon the closure of Bethesda in October 2000, it was decided to donate £1,000 towards the refurbishment of Berachah Chapel (Goodwick).

The Communion table and chairs were donated to Salem Baptist Chapel, Treffgarne – who had no such furniture.

The piano was sold for £100.00

The heaters for £100.00

The chairs for £70.00

The crockery from the vestry was distributed amongst the members.

Another meeting was held in 2003 to wind up all the financial aspects of the Church. The small amount of money left over was given to local charities.

After this announcement was made, most of the members of Bethesda did indeed attend Bethel Baptist Church Fishguard, for many years afterwards.
