| Yn ystod yr 1950au, y teulu Thomas oedd yn byw yn y Plas. Yr oedd Mrs Thomas yn hoff iawn o’i gardd ac yn tyfu eirin gwlanog mewn un tý gwydr a thomatos yn y llall. Petai ffrindie’n galw yn ystod yr haf, bydden nhw yn cael y dewis o fwyta un neu’r llall. Roedd ty gardd arbennig ar bwys coeden mulberry, ddim yn bell o iet y Plas. Yno, bob amser am bedwar o’r gloch, byddai Mrs Thomas yn arllwys te i ffrindiau a fyddai’n galw heibio. Roedd Mrs Thomas hefyd wedi datblygu gardd ddwr hyfryd ar dir y Plas.
Fel rhan o Ddathliadau Coroni 1953 yn y Cwm, cafodd y gymuned gyfan wahoddiad i Glyn y Mêl ar gyfer mabolgampau. Yn anffodus roedd Mr Thomas wedi colli ei wraig ar ddiwedd y 40au, ond mae lluniau o’r diwrnod mabolgampau yn ei ddangos ef, ei ferched a staff y Plas. Llun 1- gwelir swyddogion y mabolgampau gyda y ddwy Miss Thomas (chwiorydd) Glyn y Mel, yn edrych ymlaen. Llun 2 yn dangos eu tad. Daeth y teulu Thomas i Abergwaun o ardal Cilgerran. Y dyn byr yn y canol ydy ‘Bwt Bach’ (Mr Butler, y ‘chauffer’ o’r ‘Gables’, Glyn y Mêl) Llun 3 yn dangos Miss Nan Morgan o Newport Rd, a Bili Thomas o’r Cei yn derbyn cwpanau wrth y chwiorydd Bethan a Hedydd Thomas. | During the 1950s, the Thomas family lived in the Plas. Mrs Thomas was very fond of her garden and grew peaches in one greenhouse and tomatoes in the other. If friends and their children called during the summer, they would have the choice of eating one or the other. There was a special garden house next to a mulberry tree, not far from the front gate. There, always at four o’clock, Mrs Thomas would pour tea for friends who dropped by. Mrs Thomas had also developed a lovely water garden in the grounds of house. As part of the 1953 Coronation Celebrations at Lower Town, the whole community was invited to Glyn y Mêl for a sports event. Unfortunately, Mrs Thomas had passed away in the late 1940s, but photos of the day show Mr Thomas, his daughters and staff. Picture 1 shows the time keeper and secretary with Misses Thomas (sisters) of Glyn y Mêl looking on. Picture 2 shows their father. The Thomas family came to Fishguard from the Cilgerran area. The short man in the middle is ‘Bwt Bach’ ( Mr Butler, the chauffer from the gables, Glyn y Mêl) Picture 3 shows Miss Nan Morgan of Newport Road, and Bili Thomas of Quay St receiving cups from Misses Bethan and Hedydd Thomas. |
