Castle Estate Fishguard

Have you ever heard of the Fishguard Castle Estate ?

Well, back in 1911 this was a proposal to develop land on the headland near Fishguard Fort to create a health and pleasure resort complete with “Arts and Crafts” hotel and purpose built cottages for holiday makers alongside the road from Lower Town towards Garn Gelli.

It also planned an 18 hole golf course, its own tennis courts, croquet lawns, bowling alleys and archery butts. In addition a motor boat service linking the hotel to the railway station at Goodwick would be available following the creation of a pier just below the Fort.

The brochure (which can be viewed by selecting the download option below) was intended to promote the proposal and presumably encourage investors in the scheme.

But what happened? It obviously did not go ahead but we have not been able to find out any more about the Fishguard Castle Estate Limited – can anyone add any more to this story?
