An overview of Lower Town / Edrych dros y Cwm
A busy quay / Cei prysur

These three images give an all round view of Lower Town around the turn of the 20th century although the exact date is not known.  The Fishguard Harbour development is yet to start – there is no sign of the building of the breakwaters.

A number of barques can be seen tied up at the quay – at this time there was still an active herring trade. There were also regular trading links with Bristol for food goods and other products. Local ironmongers proudly boasted of their ability to get prompt deliveries from Bristol of the current fashions for grates and fireplaces etc.

Mae’r tair delwedd yma yn rhoi golwg gyfan ar Y Cwm tua throad yr 20fed ganrif er nad yw’r union ddyddiad yn hysbys.  Nid yw datblygiad Harbwr Abergwaun wedi dechrau eto – does dim arwydd o’r morglawdd er engrhaifft.

Gellir gweld nifer o longau ‘barque’ wedi eu clymu wrth y cei – ar y pryd roedd y fasnach scadan yn weithredol o hyd. Roedd cysylltiadau masnachu rheolaidd hefyd â Bryste ar gyfer nwyddau bwyd a chynhyrchion eraill. Roedd perchnogion siopau nwyddau haearn lleol yn ymfalchïo yn eu gallu i gael danfoniadau prydlon o Fryste. Roeddent yn cynnwys nwyddau ffasiynol ar gyfer rhoddion a lleoedd tân ac ati.
