Yn yr 1960au-80au, bu Dannie a Magwen Thomas yn cadw siop nwyddau cychod a morwra ar hyd y Cei, yng Nghwm Abergwaun. Ymhlith yr eitemau stoc, mewn siop a oedd yn rhy fach i droi ynddi, roedd – paent a farnais, raffau, siwmperi gwlân o Norwy a Shetland, dillad glaw, rhwyfau, abwyd pysgota, esgidiau, angorion, anrhegion, lampau, cardiau post, injans cychod, pwysau pysgota, sgriws, clychau pres, siacedi diogelwch, brwshys o bob math, tsaeneau a ‘buoys’, llyfrau llanw a thrai, gwialeni pysgota…….. Roedd hyn yn y cyfnod pan oedd ‘yr arian newydd’ a chyflwyniad TAW yn achosi peth gofid i siopwyr. Byddai pis pob eitem ar label bach, wedi’i ‘sgrifennu mewn inc, gyda’r ychwanegiad ‘+VAT@15%’ ar bob un! | In the 1960s-80s, Dannie and Magwen Thomas ran a boating and marine goods shop along the Quay, in Lower Fishguard. In a shop that was too small to turn in, they stocked paint and varnish, ropes, woollen jumpers from Norway and Shetland, wet weather gear, oars, fishing bait, shoes, anchors gifts, lamps, postcards, boat engines, fishing weights, screws, brass bells, life jackets, brushes of all types, chains and buoys, tide tables, fishing rods….. This was in the period when ‘new money’ (decimalisation) and the introduction of VAT was causing shoppers some distress. All the prices were on hand written labels with the words ‘+VAT@15%’ added! |
