Hwyl y Carnifal yng Nghwm Abergwaun / Lower Town Carnival Fun

Roedd trigolion y Cwm yn gweithio’n galed i greu hwyl i’r plant yn ystod yr Haf. Byddai y lori yn cael ei haddurno ar gyfer thema wahanol pob blwyddyn. Caed sbort wrth greu pennillion arbennig i hongian o gwmpas y lori a chwilio gwisgoedd a chreu ‘props’.

The ‘Cwm’ villagers worked hard to create a focus of fun for the children during the Summer. The lorry was decorated  to a particular theme every year. Special verses were created to illustrate the theme, and these were hand painted to hang around the lorry. Creating special ‘props’ and costumes were an important part of the preparations.

  • The 1st float pictured was “The Sloop John B” that’s why Terry O’Leary, Reg Channon and I were in our “Long John’s” with Raymond Harries on board. Circa 1970, the Carnival was held in Lota Park, don’t think we won any prizes, but we had fun.
For a bet in the Dinas Arms after the Carnival we all jumped off Lower Town quay in our long john’s, before going back to claim our free pints. Happy days.
