Mynd i wmolch yn y 'Regatta'! / Going for a dip at the 'Regatta'!

Pencampwyr nofio cynnar yn Abergwaun, gyda eu hyfforddwr, Tom Furlong. Roedd rasys nofio yn boblogaidd ar ddiwrnod y ‘Regatta’ yn flynyddol. Yn 1919, enwir George Furlong, tad Tom, fel enillydd y gystadleuaeth hela hwyaid! Hefyd, ceir sawl toriad papur newydd yn adrodd hanesion sawl haf o hwyl ar y dŵr. Enwau’r bobl yn y llun ydy -Mattie Brown, Eileen George, Tom Furlong, Annie Garnon, Nancy Underwood. Roedd Eileen George yn adnabyddus am ei gallu i nofio o’r Cwm i Bwllgwaelod.

Swimming races were a popular feature of the annual ‘Regatta’.  In 1919, George Furlong, Tom’s father is named as the winner of the duck hunt! Here are also several newspaper cuttings which tell of many eventful regattas at ‘Cwm’. The names of the people pictured are -Mattie Brown, Eileen George, Tom Furlong, Annie Garnon, Nancy Underwood. Eileen George was known for her ability to swim from the Cwm to Pwllgwaelod.
