Better known to locals as “Harry Williams the Boots” these photographs of the Royal Boot Stores were taken in January/February 1990/92. At the time, the width of the pavement, leading from Fishguard Square down to the HSBC (Midland Bank) in West Street, was being increased and many of the shop fronts altered.
The first photograph shows the old layout of the shop. Standing outside can be seen Mike Woakes, Francis Johns, and standing next to him a Mr Martin, who was from the Highways Dept. and on the RHS Ian Williams and Miles Pepper.
In the second photograph, the old shop front has been removed. Ian Williams and an unknown workman stand outside!
Thanks must go to Ian Williams and Nicky Williams for this information. Can anyone help to name the unknown people in either of the photographs?
The shop was finally closed in February 2007; 3 successive generations of the Williams family having owned the business.
