Here are some photos I have of the streets in Fishguard. These are of Parc Y Shut by High street.
In the 1950s a retired chemist, B.R Lewis, wrote a series of articles in the County Echo called “Turning Back the Clock”. These articles were his recollections of the ways of life in the different areas in Fishguard many years ago.
Parc Y Shwt (Shut) is named after the spring of water which for many years supplied that part of the town with water. In Parc Y Shwt were the stables for the horses used for transport before the coming of the motor car. From the top of Parc Y Shwt, the lane narrows and is known as “Y Feidr Fach” (where the car park is today). At the bottom of the Wallis Hill was the town’s slaughter house, and as a shortcut, cattle and often bulls were driven up Parc Y Shwt and through this lane to save driving them around the square to the slaughter house. This provided a source of great danger to those pedestrians using the lane and especially to young children on their way to the National School! Hence, posts were erected at the top of the lane to prevent its use in this way!

Never seen these photos before. It looks like that is the Parc Y Shwt well in the 1st photo.
You can also see the farms tree sticking out behind the house in the last photo.
Great photos!
