Two very clear photos of the top end of High Street – the presence of a photographer seems to be a fascinating occurrence for the local children.
The first property on the right of the street view, has been owned for some years by J D Jones Accountants – this photo was taken before the upstairs bay windows were added. Apparently downstairs was used as a shop with the living accommodation above.
A few doors along and it is just possible to pick out a small plaque on the wall of a house – that’s the one that can be seen close up in the second photo. Even further along the street can be seen the big board on the wall of the Bristol Trader tavern.
The second photo shows a family outside what was a grocers shop – it is not known if they were connected to the shop. The shopkeeper was a Mrs Anne Evans whose husband was a weaver. The shop board says “A Evans licensed to sell tobacco“
The photograph was likely taken in the latter part of the 1880s
