Two images of the Slade taking from similar positions – but probably around 95 years apart.
In the background of the earlier photo can be seen, the town tip – (just to the right of the footpath snaking down from Hill Terrace).
Also clearly visible is the the lower burial plot below St Mary’s Church . It is now totally overgrown and inaccessible. The town’s ‘commoners’ were buried here along with criminals from the parish. It’s likely also to be the reinternment site for people buried around the old church when it was demolished and replaced with the existing much larger church in the mid 19th Century.
