This photograph was taken in High Street, looking towards Fishguard Square and apparently dates from 1906. It shows, what must have been the pre runner to the official fire brigade introduced by Fishguard Urban District Council after 1910.
It is a little confusing however, as an article in the County Echo of 1907 refers to a demonstration of a Minimax fire extinguisher by a travelling representative of the company and it reported that ….
there was a numerous gathering of spectators to whom Mr Evans explained the workings of the Minimax, which is considered to be a valuable asset to any town where a fire brigade is not in existence
This seems to confirm that at this time there was no official Brigade and there is no mention in the press of any volunteer service so what exactly is this photo? If you have information please get in touch!!!!
