Dentistry & Daytrips / Y Deintydd Mentrus

In 1909, a young Danish entrepreneur arrived in the Fishguard area. He was a qualified dentist with 10 years of practice in the USA under his belt. His dream was to provide a quality service to the people of North Pembrokeshire by utilising modern technology.

Victor Lange and his Norwegian born wife Andrea went to live at ‘Cambrian Villas’ (Cambrian Terrace?) Dinas Cross. Their son Axil was born there on 14th April 1909, soon after they moved in.

The following adverts and articles from the press tell their own story about how Victor embraced new opportunities in order to build his business. Soon enough, he was offering dentistry, on a regular basis, at many of the local villages.

Professional dentistry was in itself something of a novelty for some locals at this time. Mr Lange’s additional innovations were sure to make him a subject of great interest in the area.

As well as being an entrepreneur  Victor Lange was also a lover of adventure. He was a member of the Pembrokeshire Automobile Association and competed in speed trials at Pendine Sands.

By the Second World War, little Axil Lange had become a flight mechanic/motor aircraft fitter.

During the 1940s it is remembered that Mr Lange ran his dental business from the upstairs of the building near Goodwick House, to the right of the primary school, where Howard Vaughan later opened a car showroom. This is the ‘Sanz’ shop today.

There is another picture, which is quite possibly of Victor and his car, to be seen here.

Ym 1909, glaniodd entrepreneur ifanc o Ddenmarc yn ardal Abergwaun. Roedd yn ddeintydd cymwysedig ac wedi arfer ei grefft yn yr Unol Daleithiau am ddeng mlynedd . Ei freuddwyd oedd rhoi gwasanaeth o safon i bobol Gogledd Sir Benfro drwy ddefnyddio technoleg fodern.

Aeth Victor Lange a’i wraig Andrea, a aned yn Norwy, i fyw yn ‘Cambrian Villas’ (Cambrian Terrace?) Dinas Cross. Ganwyd eu mab Axil yno ar Ebrill 14eg 1909, yn fuan wedi iddynt symud i mewn.

Mae’r hysbysebion a’r erthyglau canlynol o’r wasg yn adrodd eu stori eu hunain am sut y manteisiodd Victor ar gyfleoedd newydd er mwyn adeiladu ei fusnes. Yn fuan iawn, roedd yn cynnig ei wasanaeth, yn wythnosol, mewn nifer o’r pentrefi bach yn y cylch.

Roedd deintyddiaeth broffesiynol ynddo’i hun yn dipyn o newydd-deb i rai pobl leol ar yr adeg yma. Roedd datblygiadau newydd Mr Lange yn sicr o’i wneud yn destun siarad mawr yn yr ardal.

Yn ogystal â bod yn entrepreneur roedd Victor Lange hefyd yn hoff o antur. Roedd yn aelod o Gymdeithas Foduro Sir Benfro a bu’n cystadlu mewn treialon cyflymdra ar Draeth Pentywyn.

Adeg yr Ail Ryfel Byd, bu’r mab, Axil Lange yn fecanic yn trîn injins awyrennau.

Yn ystod yr 1940au cofir i Mr Lange fod yn cynnal ei fusnes deintydda o llofft yr adeilad ger Goodwick House, i’r dde o’r ysgol gynradd, lle yr agorodd Howard Vaughan garej arddangos ceir yn ddiweddarach. Siop ‘Sanz’ yw hwn heddi.

Mae llun posib o Victor mewn car gwahanol yma.

Mae’r erthygl yma yn dangos bod Victor Lange hefyd yn gyrru’n gystadleuol mewn mwy nag un categori ar lefel sirol / This article shows that Victor Lange also drove competitively in more than one category on a county level.
