A Fron Character

Howell Davies grew up in Little Newcastle and spent his early working years in a Rhondda colliery. The First World War saw him soldiering in France. Later on he married Elizabeth Williams of Fron Uchaf in Dinas, and helped to build the cottage at Frondeg.

Elderly neighbours still remember him as a friendly and jovial man. In the 1930s he worked at Goodwick railway station, making the six mile journey, twice a day, on his bicycle. He lived at Frondeg until his death in September 1964, when he was interred at Macpellah.

He and his wife had no children, but virtually adopted Brenetta Williams, Lizzie’s niece, who sadly lost her mother when a toddler.
