A dog called Sailor

A Dog Called Sailor
County Echo
Taken in Pwllgwaelod

Pub landlord Langley Forrest has always known that his cross labrador dog Sailor is quite a character, but when a customer brought in an international fashion company’s catalogue with pictures of Sailor in it, he was taken aback.

It turns out that the fashion models and photographers from “French Connection” had visited Pwllgwaelod, where Langley runs his pub the Sailor’s Safety, last February (1987) where much of the fashion shoot for the catalogue was taken.

“I was not open during the lunchtime when they came down here, but Sailor must have joined in. The first I knew about it was when a customer, who had picked up the catalogue in Tenby, recognised Sailor from Pwllgwaelod and brought the catalogue down to show me last week” explained Langley.

As well as being included in the fashion photographs, they had also printed a photograph of Sailor on his own!

One of Langley’s staff members happened to go into the Cardiff branch of the “French Connection” shop and there, blown up on the walls were more photographs of Sailor.

Sailor’s fame has not gone to his head yet, to him, it is probably just another one of his adventures; he recently followed a party of RAF servicemen who were walking through Pwllgwaelod, all the way to St Nicholas!

Besides Pwllgwaelod, the photographs in the fashion catalogue were taken around the Cathedral area of St David’s, Whitesands, and on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
