Delivering the Milk in 1963 - Dinas

There are three small-holdings on the Fron in Dinas Cross: upwards from Rock House there is Fron Isaf and then Fron Uchaf. Milk was carried down a long track to the A487 for collection by United Dairies.

In this photo from July 1963, Brenetta Williams of Fron Uchaf has used a hand cart to bring small churns of milk down to Rock House, where they will be added to the waiting donkey cart.

Her uncle, Thomas James Williams, usually led the donkey down to the main road. Onlookers are Thomas Taylor and young Ron Davies, visitors from Arfron.

  • My family used to stay at Rock House for our summer holidays in the mid to late 1960s. I can remember the donkey named Nancy who used to take the milk down to the churn stand. Happy days for us in a bygone age
