Many years ago, the Pendre Inn (at the top of High street) was known as “Masons Arms” and kept by Thomas Lewis, a well-known craftsman. He was a skilled plasterer and mason, as was his son Robert.
These two men built the steps leading down to Llanpit Bach – from the Marine Walk – and the work they did still stands to this day, a credit to them. Later attempts to build a platform etc., for bathers, were swept away by the waves. The building of these platforms was against the advice sought at the time from the late Sir Evan Jones Bart. However, the steps survived and the work of Tom Lewis still stands.
