Trecwn flats at Llanychaer

Cronllwyn Farm looking eastwards

Trecwn flats

This scene is of Cronllwyn Farm which is high up above the village of Llanychaer.  The photograph was taken looking towards the east and in the top left corner can be seen the buildings of Y Garn.

Take a close look using the yellow magnifier and it is possible to see the blocks of flats, built to provide accomodation for Trecwn workers and their families. They form a line just above the foreground farm buildings.

The flats were just two storey with flat roofs and apparently all mod cons of the time!   There was even a cinema for workers’ entertainment.  Nothing now remains of the flats  – they were raised to the ground and the site cleared.

The map gives a better indication of where the flats were sited.

  • Although ‘nothing now remains of the flats’ (for the employees at Trecwn), the sharp-eyed among us may still be able to make out the dilapidated remnant of a garden gate.
