During the  Invasion of 1797, French troops landed at nearby Carregwastad and officers set up their headquarters at Trehowell Farmhouse.  The hungry foot soldiers then went visiting local farms, looting enthusiastically. When they reached the farmhouse of Brestgarn, one of the soldiers thought he could hear a sound behind the door. He raised his musket and fired. When he looked behind the door, he found a grandfather clock with a bullet hole clean through it!

The clock still survives and the present occupants at Brestgarn are very welcoming to visitors who want to view it.

Yn ystod y Goresgyniad ym 1797, glaniodd milwyr Ffrainc yng Ngharregwastad gerllaw a sefydlodd swyddogion eu pencadlys yn Ffermdy Trehowell. Yna aeth y milwyr traed newynog i ymweld â ffermydd lleol, gan ysbeilio’n frwd. Pan gyrhaeddon nhw ffermdy Brestgarn, roedd un o’r milwyr yn meddwl y gallai glywed sŵn y tu ôl i’r drws. Cododd ei fwsged a thanio. Pan edrychodd y tu ôl i’r drws, daeth o hyd i gloc tal gyda thwll bwled yn glir trwyddo!

Mae’r cloc yn dal i sefyll yn ffermdy Brestgarn ac mae’r preswylwyr presennol yn groesawgar iawn i ymwelwyr sy’n galw i’w weld.
