Photograph no 1 of the Star Supply Stores shows a wide range of groceries, and their prices, displayed in the windows; in the doorway stand the members of staff. Situated in West Street, Fishguard, this shop had been known previously as Jacksons which again sold a wide range of groceries, household goods, children’s toys and fresh produce such as milk from their own cows, and vegetables from Jacksons large garden which stood where Mannings, and the Golden Mile, is today.
In later years – the 60s- the Star Supply Stores became Fishguard’s first “Supermarket” known as George Masons. Since then, the building has been the location of the Halifax and Santander building societies and at present is in use as offices.
Only one person who worked at the Star Supply Stores can be identified in photo no 1. Standing second from the LHS, is Miss Megan Davies (later Smith), of Clive Road. Does anyone recognise the others or individuals in photos 2 & 3.
