‘TO THE LOVED MEMORY OF SIR JAMES JOHN HAMILTON BART. Born 1st March 1802, Died 12th January 1876. This school is erected by his devoted widow Marianna Augusta Hamilton. 1886.
| Daeth yr ysgol i ben yn ffurfiol ym mis Mawrth 1969 – mae cofrestr ar gael i brofi hyn. Yn 1971, gwelir tu fewn yr adeilad mewn golygfa yn y ffilm ‘Under Milk Wood’ lle y mae yr actores Angharad Rhys iw gweld yng nghwmni dosbarth o blant meithrin. Yn y cefndir, gwelir Mrs Gwyneth Lewis. Roedd hi a’i ffrindiau yn gyfrifol am gynnal ysgol feithrin cyfrwng Cymraeg yma – un o’r cynharaf i’w sefydlu yng Nghymru, cyn dyfodiad y Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin. Bu’r Ysgol Feithrin ar agor tan 1974-5 gyda Mrs Rees a Mrs Janet Morse yn cefnogi Mrs Lewis. Ydych chi yn adnabod y plant yn y llun? Anfonwch enwau atom.
| Formal school lessons ceased here in March 1969 – a register is available to prove this. In 1971, the interior of the building is seen in a scene in the film ‘Under Milk Wood’ where actress Angharad Rhys is seen in the company of a class of nursery children. In the background, Mrs Gwyneth Lewis is seen. She and her friends were responsible for maintaining a Welsh-medium nursery school here – one of the earliest to be established in Wales, before the advent of more formal education for the under 5’s. This arrangement lasted till 1974-5. Mrs Rees and Mrs Janet Morse were support staff for Mrs Lewis. Do you recognise the children in the picture? Please help us to fill in the names. |
