Cafodd y Parchg William Rees ei eni ym mhentre Llanarthne, Sir Gâr yn 1854. Fe fu yn weinidog ar Gapel Harmoni (Bedyddwyr) Pencaer am 47 mlynedd – o Ionawr 23 1887 hyd ei farwolaeth yn 70 oed, ar Ionawr 23, 1934.

Yn ystod y cyfnod fe adeiladwyd tý capel newydd ac adnewyddwyd y stabl yn festri. Llywiodd yr aelodau trwy gyfnodau tywyll y Rhyfel Mawr, pandemig ffliw, diwasgiad economaidd, bron at yr Ail Ryfel Byd.

Yr oedd y Parchg Rees yn fardd ac yn ddarlithydd ac yn ysgrifennu traethodau ac emynau. Ei enw barddol oedd Arianglawdd.

Claddwyd ef a’i wraig Mary Jane ym mynwent Harmoni . Bu Mrs Rees farw yn 81 oed ar 12-4-1945. Yr oedd ganddynt bump o blant- Morfudd Elfreda, Blodwen, Gwladys, Anita ac Emlyn.

 

Reverend William Rees was born in the village of Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire in 1854. He was minister at Harmony Baptist Chapel, Pencaer for 47 years – from 23rd January 1887 till his death, aged 70 years on 23rd January 1934.

During the period, a new chapel was built and the stable was renovated into a vestry. Rev Rees guided the members  through the dark times of the Great War, a flu pandemic, economic depression, almost to the Second World War.

Reverend Rees was a poet and lecturer and wrote essays and hymns. His bardic name was Arianglawdd.

He and his wife Mary Jane are buried at Harmoni cemetery . She died aged 81 yrs on 12-4-1945. They had five children – Morfudd Elfreda, Blodwen, Gwladys, Anita & Emlyn.
