Thomas Davies - Abercastell

Thomas Davies - pysgotwyr o Abercastell / the fisherman from Abercastle.
H.B George

Am dros hanner canrif bu’r hen bysgotwr cimychiaid hwn gyda’i gart ac asyn, yn gurru’r naw milltir o Abercastell i Abergwaun bron yn ddyddiol i werthu cimychiaid yn y dre. Roedd galw mawr amdanynt! Mae’r Swan Inn bellach yn cael ei adnabod fel The Coachouse, ger Sgwâr Abergwaun. Gwnaeth y bardd lleol, Idwal Lloyd, greu cerdd hyfryd am Thomas, Abercastell. I’w ddarllen, gwasgwch yma.

For over half a century the veteran lobster catcher, seen above with his donkey and cart, traversed the nine miles from Abercastle to Fishguard almost daily to vend his much sought after lobsters! The Swan Inn is now known as The Coachouse and is near Fishguard Square. Local poet Idwal Lloyd wrote a wonderful poem about Thomas which is available to read here.
