Pasiant pen blwydd 200 yn Hermon -1976 - 200th anniversary pageant at Hermon

Daeth hen ddillad mamgu o gefn y wardrob ar gyfer y pasiant lliwgar hwn yn haf twym 1976.

Ar y Sulgwyn, dechreuwyd ar y dathlu gyda gwasanaeth ieuenctid am 10 y bore a chymundeb gyda’r hwyr lle ymunodd aelodau capeli Glandwr, Goedwig a Harmoni yn yr addoli. Bu’r cynweinidog- y Parchg John Lewis, Miss Blodwen Rees a’r gweinidog presennol – Parchg D Osbourne Thomas yn arwain y gwasanaethau.

Ar y noson ganlynol (Nos Lun), â Hermon yn llawn i’r ymylon, roedd ieuenctid ac aelodau yr achos yn portreadu hanes dwy ganrif o weithgarwch y Bedyddwyr yn y dre. Tasg digon anodd oedd actio mewn gwisgoedd hyd y llawr, â’r ffenestri  lled y pen ar agor oherwydd y gwres!  Mr a Mrs Tom Beynon a Mr T J Williams fu’n gyfrifol am ysgrifennu y sgript.

Ar ddydd Mawrth cafwyd gweinidog ifanc o Caerfyrddin- y Parchg Desmond Davies, i bregethu. Ar y dydd Mercher, cafwyd gwasanaeth awyr agored yn y cwrt o flaen y Capel, dan ofal y Parchg Peter Thomas, Rhydwilym a’r Parchg Emlyn Jones, Llangloffan. Wedyn, agorodd Mr William Paterson, yr aelod hunaf, y drws i’r Capel, ar ddechre’r trydydd canrif o addoliad yn y lle. Dadorchuddiodd gofeb arbennig yn yr adeilad.

Ymysg eraill fu’n cymryd rhan oedd – Parchg Harold Bartlett (Bethel), Parchg Haydn John (Pentowr), Mr D A Reynolds, Mrs Nora Richards a Mr Prnri Jackson ar ran Hermon; Mr Emrys Wynn Owen, Parchg Gerwyn Morgan (Yr Eglwys) a’r Cyngh. George Morris, Maer Abergwaun ac Wdig. Cafwyd te moethus i ddilyn gan wragedd y capel. Am 7yh, roedd y Parchg Carey Garnon, Abertawe a’r Parchg Dafydd Davies, Caerdydd yn bregethwyr gwadd. Ar ddydd Iau cafodd plant yr Ysgol Sul de parti godidog a sioe ffilmiau. Mrs John,  Llangloffan House wnaeth baratoi y gacen ben-blwydd.

Members  and visitors alike enjoyed a two hundredth anniversary pageant, despite the sweltering heat of summer, 1976. Many had made use of family heirloom costumes to re-enact scenes from the chapel’s history.

On Whitsunday, the celebration began with a youth service at 10 in the morning and communion in the evening where members of Glandwr, Goedwig and Harmoni chapels joined in the worship. The former minister – Reverend John Lewis, Miss Blodwen Rees and the current minister – Reverend D Osbourne Thomas led the services.

On the following night (Monday), with Hermon Chapel full to bursting, the Sunday School and members of the chapel, in costume, portrayed two centuries of the Baptist cause in the area. It was quite a difficult task to act in floor-length dresses, with the windows wide open because of the heat! Mr and Mrs Tom Beynon and Mr T J Williams were responsible for writing the script.

On Tuesday a young minister from Carmarthen – the Revd Desmond Davies, assended to the pulpit to preach. On the Wednesday, there was an outdoor service in the courtyard in front of the Chapel, under the care of the Reverend Peter Thomas, Rhydwilym and the Reverend Emlyn Jones, Llangloffan. Then, Mr William Paterson, the oldest member, opened the door to the Chapel, at the beginning of what is the third century of worship in the place. He unveiled a special memorial plaque in the building. Among others who took part were – Reverend Harold Bartlett (Bethel), Reverend Haydn John (Pentowr), Mr D A Reynolds, Mrs Nora Richards and Mr Penri Jackson on behalf of Hermon; Mr Emrys Wynn Owen, Reverend Gerwyn Morgan (St Mary’s) and Cllr. George Morris, Mayor of Fishguard and Goodwick. A sumptuous tea followed provided by the ladies of the chapel. At 7pm, Revd Carey Garnon, Swansea and Revd Dafydd Davies, Cardiff were guest preachers.  On thursday the Sunday School children were given a magnificent tea party and film show. Mrs John, Llangloffan House made the birthday cake.
