Awst 1986

Croesawyd Yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Frenhinol yn 1986 yn Abergwaun gyda Seremoni Agoriadol ar ddydd Sadwrn – digwyddiad gwych, yn llawn o draddodiad Cymreig heb ei hail, â’r prif bafiliwn yn llawn ar gyfer y digwyddiad.

Cafwyd raglen seremonïol gyfoethog ac amrywiol a chafwyd ymddangosiad swyddogol cyntaf Côr yr Eisteddfod. Hefyd yr oedd ugeiniau o blant ysgol lleol a Swyddogion yr Eisteddfod, i gyd yn croesawu’r Ŵyl trwy areithiau a thrwy gân.

Rhuthrodd storm gref drwy faes yr Eisteddfod ar y penwythnos flaenorol a difrodwyd darnau o’r maes  (- y pebyll arlwyo yn arbennig ) cyn i’r Eisteddfod agor. Cafwyd digwyddiadau niferus o fân ddifrod mewn mannau eraill ar y safle. Er bod y gwynt cryf yn helpu i sychu’r maes mwdlyd, daeth ffermwyr â chyflenwadau o wellt i osod ar y ddaear. Wellingtons oedd yr esgidiau mwyaf poblogaidd gan bobl yr Eisteddfod am weddill yr wythnos!

August 1986

The 1986 Royal National Eisteddfod was officially welcomed to Fishguard at Saturday’s Opening Ceremony where all the razzamatazz of a great event, mingling with an unrivalled Welsh tradition brought the main pavilion alive before a large crowd which packed into the building for the event.

They were greeted by a rich and varied ceremonial programme which saw the Eisteddfod Choir’s first official appearance of the week, along with scores of local schoolchildren and Eisteddfod Officials, all welcoming the Festival through speeches and through song.

A force 10 gale tore through the Eisteddfod field the previous week-end which had badly damaged the main catering complex hours before the Eisteddfod was due to open, and there were numerous incidents of minor damage elsewhere on the site. Although the strong wind helped to dry out the sodden field, farmers brought in supplies of straw to lay on the ground and wellingtons were the preferred footwear for Eisteddfod goers!
